Now that the February mission is history and we’re all home and back to our routines, it’s time to take a look back at last week and share observations…
We are so lucky in so many ways…. we have…
- timely access to healthcare
- state of the art healthcare machines, prostheses, facilities, specialized medical professionals, and, believe it or not, shorter waiting times in our doctor’s office even with an appointment.
- doctors close by…it’s not a nine-hour bus ride.
- cataracts that can be surgically removed in 10 minutes
- knee prostheses especially ordered for us in the size we need
- shoes without holes in the soles
- shoes that fit
- a closet to peek into and decide what to wear and not washing by hand and picking out what happens to be clean.
- the money to afford the $2.00 reading glasses at CVS
- the passion to help others.
The list is endless. Please add to it as you reflect back….
For one week we understand first-hand what it is like not to be from Long Island and other comparable places in the US. We know what it’s like to give of ourselves, our hearts, and our healing hands to comfort others. The “benediciones” (blessings) we receive are endless and given to us with sincerity and gratitude.
Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain loving one another.
