When most people think of cataract surgery, they mostly think of middle-aged and elderly people.

Yesterday, we had three children in the operating room for surgeries on congenital cataracts. I can only imagine how scary it is to be in a kid in a hospital, surrounded by medical staff and sick people and unsure of what will soon happen to them. However, this adorable 5-year-old could not stop smiling. She lit up the pre-op area and captured the attention of nearly everyone on our mission.

I didn’t see her today for her post-op exam, but I hear she was smiling even wider than before.
