Jillian Shulder –  Jillian2My experience with Blanca’s House so far has been absolutely amazing. I’ve learned so much and have enjoyed every minute of it. Going to the orphanage and school, really opened my eyes and allowed me to see the way that these people live. We are fortunate enough to have nice clothes, houses and other unnecessary wants, but the people here barely get by. When I was handing out items such as food, toys and clothes at the orphanage, it was the best feeling I have ever had. All the children ran up to me asking for more and their parents followed to take photos. They were so interested in us, the same way that we were interested in them. That experience truly was life changing and I am so thankful to have had that opportunity. Also I’ve had the chance to watch and assist in surgeries. They included C-sections, hernias, gallbladder removals, and cleft lips/palates. It’s so rewarding to see how happy and grateful our patients are after their surgeries and to see their recoveries. I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world and I hope to go on more medical missions with Blanca’s House in the upcoming future!

Janey Kann – Going to Ecuador with Blanca’s House has been a great experience and has really given me a new view on life.  This is my second trip but it still has the same impact on me as the first one did. I learn new things every day and meet new people and Blanca’s house is an amazing opportunity.  I have seen many surgeries such as lap chole, hernia, cleft palate, cleft lip, C-section, and polydactyly.  They are all very interesting and I am learning so much with each surgery I watch.  I have also visited the clinic which is in the heart of a very poor town. This trip really makes you realize how much we take for granted and how much of difference something small can make in these people’s lives.  I definitely have also gained a new appreciation for having the necessary medicine\surgeries whenever we need it, some of these people have lived with these problems for years.  I am glad that I could be a part of this mission and help to make a difference in these people’s lives.
